IPL 2025: Karun Nair Shines with First Fifty in Seven Years

Karun Nair made a stunning return to IPL by scoring a fantastic half-century—his first in seven years—during the exciting match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians on Sunday. Coming in as a substitute, Nair wowed fans with his aggressive batting, especially against Jasprit Bumrah.

Chasing a tough target of 206 runs, Nair got off to a great start, reaching his fifty in just 22 balls. He attacked Bumrah right away, hitting two boundaries in his first over and then hammering 18 runs in the next over, including two big sixes. His quick scoring helped DC reach 72 runs by the end of the powerplay, boosting their confidence in the chase.

Nair has been in great form for Vidarbha in domestic cricket, proving he can still perform at a high level. His innings quickly went viral, with fans praising his comeback.

Earlier, Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Mumbai Indians set a strong score of 205/5, thanks to Tilak Varma’s 59 off 33 balls and support from Suryakumar Yadav (40 off 28), Ryan Rickelton (41 off 25), and Naman Dhir (38 off 17).

Rohit Sharma and Rickelton set a fast pace for MI, scoring 45 runs in just four overs. While Rickelton fell to Kuldeep Yadav in the eighth over, Tilak kept the innings steady, reaching his second half-century in just 26 balls. Dhir added some exciting runs at the end, helping MI cross the 200-run mark comfortably.

In response, DC fought hard with Nair’s impressive 89 off 40 balls. However, they ultimately fell short, getting bowled out for 193 in 19 overs. Karn Sharma was MI's best bowler with 3/36, while Mitchell Santner took 2/43. For DC, Vipraj Nigam (2/41) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/23) were the standout bowlers.

Nair's impressive comeback and his fearless batting against one of the best bowlers made him a key topic of discussion after the match.
