Colin Munro Sets New PSL Record for Most Fifty-Plus Scores
Colin Munro, the explosive New Zealand batter and key figure for Islamabad United, has etched his name into Pakistan Super League (PSL) history by setting a new record for the most fifty-plus scores in the tournament. With an unbeaten 59 off 42 balls against Lahore Qalandars, Munro surpassed South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw to claim the top spot.
Heading into the match in Rawalpindi, both Munro and Rossouw were tied with 12 fifty-plus scores. Munro’s latest half-century not only broke the deadlock but also propelled him to a record 13 such scores in just 48 PSL appearances. In that time, he has amassed 1,476 runs and has been a consistent force at the top of Islamabad’s batting order.
Rossouw now drops to second on the all-time list, while New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi and England’s Jason Roy share third place, each with 10 fifty-plus scores—Ronchi achieving the mark in 31 games, Roy in 38. Despite Munro’s milestone, the overall PSL leader remains Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who leads by a wide margin with 35 fifty-plus scores.
Munro’s record-setting innings proved pivotal in Islamabad United’s emphatic eight-wicket victory over Lahore in the Season 10 opener. Chasing a target of 140, the team made light work of the total, thanks to Munro’s aggressive knock and an unbeaten 41 from Salman Ali Agha.
Earlier, Lahore Qalandars struggled to build momentum, managing only 139 runs despite a quick 66 from Abdullah Shafique and a brisk 23 by Sikandar Raza. Jason Holder emerged as the standout performer with the ball for Islamabad United, delivering a game-changing spell of 4 for 26 that dismantled Lahore’s middle order.
While Shafique’s return to form was a bright spot for Lahore, it wasn’t enough to stop Islamabad’s dominant performance. The win sets a powerful tone for Islamabad United as they begin their campaign to defend the PSL title in Season 10.
